ABSTRACT
The gills of Barbus camptacanthus Bleeker, 1863 harbor many parasite species as monogeneans. In the present work, we study the structure of the biotope of these parasites based on the number of gill filaments on which they are attached. ¶To undertake this investigation, 56 fishes were caught in September 2014 in the Koukoum River at the locality of Beng-Nyong and fixed in 10% formalin solution. The gill filaments were counted using a stereomicroscope. The evolution of gill filaments number was positively correlated to the B. camptacanthus length. Moreover, the average total number of the gill filaments at the side; the arch and hemibranch increased with the host’s size. This parameter did not statistically vary with the host side but decreased significantly from the anterior towards the posterior arch. Irrespective of the arch, the anterior hemibranch statistically carried more filaments than the posterior one.
